Since previews, especially previews this early, are basically dress rehearsals, I'll reserve judgment. That Blythe Danner wasn't at her best -- and she's noted for her polish and professionalism -- says that there's still work to do.
Williams is hard to get right. It's not slam-bang. I'm going in two weeks to see for myself.
of course form your own opinion and let me know what you think but these are not dress rehersals-they've been doing rehersals for a month-NOW it's in front of a live audience. The ticket prices are the same for preview and after opening. Blythe-if she was such a polished and professional actress it wasn't manifested tonight regardless of it being in "previews" she was bland and non-energetic and wasn't captivating IMO The play was not hard to get-it was very straight forward.
I'm not surprised Gale sucked. He was brilliant by the end of QAF but his acting still needs a lot of work unfortunately.
WOOHOO for you seeing Randy and Scott though!!! How embarrassing for them to see Gale not do very well. I wonder if they told him what they really thought? Did either of them see you?
Yes, but how did they all *look*? Kidding, I'm kidding. Sort of :D
I'm sorry the play wasn't really your thing. I'm sure it was a good experience just seeing Gale but it's always more enjoyable as a package. I'll be interested to read if you see any changes in the next performance - perhaps it was a case of first night jitters?
Have fun while you're in the city! Send me some NYC vibes, okay? I miss being over there.
lol pretty damn fine! that's what Gale looked like. ya too bad the package was not complete (meaning a good play/performance) but it'll be interesting to see if there is any improvement for the next show. are you coming? sending you good nyc vibes
I'm desperately trying to get over there in January with hansardgal but it's not looking too good right now. Thank you for the vibes and the post(s) - they're keeping me from going insane!
.... yes, I so do live on the wrong side of the globe! I really couldn't help but squee when I read Randy and Scott were both tehre too. That surely must have helped Gale somewhat, giving him confidence :)
yes much squeezing internally is allowed LOL i was pretty shocked to see them in the crowd not expecting it but it's kind of hard not to miss Randy's presence.
"but it's kind of hard not to miss Randy's presence."
Yeah, I guess he's one of those people - like the theatre-teacher of a friend of mine once put it - who just step out onto a stage and the stage is full. He just has that presence. (I just hope I'll see that myself one day *counts pennies from her killed piggy-bank*)
