What the hell is wrong with these idiots? The planet is an incredibly complex system, resilient but able to be damaged. We're seeing that as the average global temperature slowly inches up the mercury. So, given just how well such a simple environmental factor as CO2 could produce a major unintended side effect, what possible harm do you think ( Read more... )

Not to mention that it won't work. There simply is too much water we are talking about here. It would take at leat 200000 ships or more to make a dent in it. HOWEVER, a rocket loaded with reflective dust, asbestos or some such, detonated in space in a perfect point to block the sun from that area WOULD work quite well. The question remains how to deal with the dust in orbit, but then again, a bit of dust up high might just cure global warming eh?

I take some comfort from the probable futility of this effort, but my objections are more related to the idea that changing the weather is a desireable thing. The potential for misstep is vast. The potential consequences are mind-boggling.

But I'm a pessimist.
