Poor urban and regional planning is the culprit,
however the dangers of having indian point around i'm hard pressed to think closing it would be any sort of solution, since in its place there would have to be double the amount of coal burning or other fossil fuel burning plants..
I am partial and generally believe a lot of the supposed fear driven rhetoric by groups like riverkeeper stem from local property owners of peekskill.. the value of the property they bought was heavily reduced for such a beautiful quaint river town so close to the city because of indian point. They stand a lot to gain from the closing of the plant and i remember a bunch of interviews on RNN a while back of these people making statements on par with 'i'm afraid to let my daughter out of the house!!'.. which just leads me to believe they are reaching and that lady is really an idiot. it could be either/or
having a state government which is run by bruno, pataki and a bunch of other idios
