for Nikola

The missive left in Alcuin's mailbox read only: My room, soon. Bring glasses. Tesla. It was, for all its simplicity, at least unambiguous, and Alcuin took an educated guess and borrowed two wine glasses from the kitchen before making his way toward the room in the compound that Nikola had mentioned was his. "If Y equals A [cosh x over 1 c-1] and A equals fc over Qb then..." Nikola stared at the interruption opening the door with one hand as he rolled his sleeves up with the other and loosened his cravat. Nikola ushered Alcuin in, hand pressing against Alcuin's back before he closed the door the behind him. "Immortality," Nikola replied with a knowing smirk. The board was covered in an antiquated but neat scrawl, filled with equations and notes on the progression of Helen and Adam's disease and the possible rejuvination of the vampire race. He had no real hopes for it working here but well, he wouldn't stop trying. "But I'd need the source blood or at least a small sample of it to work from and sadly the island doesn't have any and the one person whose blood might unlock it, isn't co-operative to say the least. She suspects I might do something with it."

Which of course he would. And most likely something Helen would definitely not approve of. "Glass? I found a number or rather nice bottles of Merlot just lying around."

"If it is not impertinent of me to say so, I think if anyone has already found immortality, it is you," Alcuin said politely, though at the offer of wine, his face lit. "Actual wine? Truly? Not made of pineapple or some such?" He held out the glasses.
