Old Shame In A Digital Archive

May 14, 2010 02:09

Now that I have a new computer, I've been slowly going through all of my CD-Rs to see what I have that's worth reloading. Since I have so damn many of them, I'm also seeing how many can be trashed. I haven't gone through many yet, but I already know there are some that are worth trashing for certain, like the one I found.

Last night I found one labeled "Wrestling Video." I remember working on a wrestling video for my Video/Graphic Design class in high school, so I logically assumed this was the footage that was used for the initial version, before the project switched over to WWF No Mercy footage. I pop it in and...

Oh, no. It isn't my wrestling footage. It isn't even something I would have dared take to school. It is from around that same time period, though.

I had backed up my old websites. Oh, hell no.

I thought stumbling on that packet of old drawings back in January was bad, but that was nothing. The drawings that I had archived along with my website are even older, even crappier, and even more embarrassing, and they're accompanied by stupid reminders of how much of a dork I was to boot. The packet was just bad drawings, but this archive was bad drawings with commentary. I was able to remind myself exactly what I was thinking at the time.

Yikes.

The archive wasn't a total disappointment, though. Among other things, I found some game shots that I thought had been lost to the ages, like the only time I've ever seen anybody spontaneously combust in The Sims. Even better, I found a partial picture of the insanely awesome (and even more insanely popular) water ride I had made on Theme Park once! Oh, this thing was amazing. It took at least a full year in game-time to ride, and this ride alone caused my profits for the year to increase tenfold. Too bad the accompanying save state doesn't work.

So, yeah, I think I'm gonna salvage a few files (anybody wanna see blurry pictures of post-graduation me, with long hair?) and then destroy this thing.

hello internets, random thoughts, i am a nerd, art stuff, general bitching
