I don't think it's a stupid idea, but I do agree that maybe you are just caught up in the whole idea and maybe you haven't thought it through. However I must say, coming from experience here, go with your instinct and not what anyone tells you. I mean, yeah your family is going to have their opinions,but in the end, who is the one going to college here--yep thats right--you. Decide what you want to do because in the end, it's your life.
