Lying about a surprise b-day party or an unannounced gift. Telling him your name is Svetlana, the foreign exchange student from Belarus who has no money for her room, but desperately needs a place to stay while she attends that all girls university up the road.

You know. Those thing that are not for personal gain or avoidance.

Saying someone did not call or email when in fact they did, is a deception. The degree depends on the person and subject. Saying you love someone when in fact you do not. Telling someone you are not seeing anyone, if in fact you are. Telling them that you are the heir to a small fortune, when the truth is more like a small fortune worth of debt.
