The (Somewhat) Fabulous Life

Dec 02, 2007 03:59

It's been a pretty interesting and thought-provoking week. Par usual, it's resulted in thought-provoking bouts of sleeplessness, fits and starts of impressive amounts of work, and a series of inexpensive (I won't say cheap) thrills.

Whether you're decadent or not is something for you to figure out. Then, or perhaps before, figure out if it matters ( ... )

Thank you for your advice - there's no immediate risk of credit card debt, and I've been reading up on just how evil it is to keep me from cavalierly charging into debt. I basically need roommates and couldn't find them before I signed this six month lease. I also couldn't figure out how much I could afford to pay without any idea of my spending on my own, so I agreed to an amount which I thought was high but didn't realize was higher than some friends in Manhattan are paying. The salary can (and should) go up soon, but the rent is also going to have to go way down ( ... )

I've been going to the gym at least 3 times a week for the past month and eating a reasonable diet, yet I've lost almost no weight.

I was in the same boat for a long time after college. What I ended up doing was doing 30 min of cardio (running or elliptical machine, maybe a treadmill - an exercise bike won't cut it IMO) every day and weightlifting 3 times a week and realize that what seems intuitively like a "reasonable" diet is not always so. Human beings apparently have sucky intuition for such things. (Several recent studies have demonstrated this.) You have to seriously pay attention to the amounts of calories in things until you get a better sense of what's realistic.

For example, what I considered a "serving" of, say, Raisin Bran cereal was really 2 or 3 times as much as the serving size listed on the box. Serving size is how they getcha.

If I was going to suffer and negotiate for a cause, it wasn't going to be onanistic intellectualism.I would totally dig a career of onanistic intellectualism...if the barriers to entry weren ( ... )

wow just read your entry and that sounds like an even more awesome night! I think it must be that whole "planning" thing that we conveniently skipped. :P The Borgata is gorgeous - apparently, it's rated in the top ten for best bathrooms in the world (what a strange thing to rate, no?). I want to go back earlier in the evening at some point so that I can catch some of the other entertainment - by the time we were there, it was pretty much tables and food and that was it ( ... )
