It was all Sam could do to not fall apart. He had lost everything. His brother, his friends, the man who had been like a father to him....Hell, he couldn't even protect Meg and Kevin. Every ally he'd ever had was dead. He had never felt like more of a failure.

He knew logically that none of this was his fault, but there had to be something he could ( Read more... )

It had been a few months since little Castiel had popped the Leviathans out of Purgatory. Somehow, no one had noticed a stowaway, though. Gabriel was, of course, the only angel tricky enough to know how to use that whole mess to his advantage. Still, the whole thing had left in a messy state. It had taken a few months to really get himself back together and then he'd decided to lay low for a while. Those things could kill him and he had no interest in dying again so quickly ( ... )

Sam whipped around at the voice, eyes wide. It couldn't be. He They had lost Gabriel years ago. He couldn't possibly be with him now. Which meant this was some kind of trick.

He couldn't let himself get his hopes up. Not when he'd forced himself to deal with the loss of their ally. It had been harder than he originally thought it would be, but he'd gotten to a point where he was okay.

Which only made him angrier at this imposter.

His expression hardened, one hand wrapping around the hilt of the demon blade.

"Who the Hell are you?" he demanded, voice cold.

Woah, the Sasquatch was angry. Gabriel held up his hands in mock-surrender.

"I'm obviously the Easter Bunny. I got a little lost on the way, but..." He dug around in a jacket pocket until he found a small chocolate egg and then tossed it at Sam. "I've hidden three more around the room. If you find them all, you get a special prize." The prize was more chocolate.

"I felt the shockwave from Purgatory sucking up that sucker. Score another one for the chuckleheads, I guess." He eyed the blade. "You know that thing can't hurt me. For someone who just won a fight against something older than humanity, you sure don't think things through."

Sam didn't even attempt to catch the egg, the small chocolate hitting his chest before dropping to the floor.

It couldn't be. Gabriel couldn't be alive. There was no way. But the way he spoke? The words he used? That was Gabriel through and through. He'd have picked out his personality in a sea of imposters.

His grip slowly loosened on the blade, hand falling to his side.

"Gabriel?"
