I'm looking a buying a dongle of sorts so that I can surf the net using my laptop, rather than the family computer. I've seen a couple of alright deals, but they all seem to have a download limit, the highest of which is 5GB

I don't have one myself, but I did talk to my dad, computer tech, with a similar line of thought a few weeks back.
What you have to remember is that EVERYTHING that comes across your internet counts as memory. Say you look at your LJ: the text, the icons, the headers, the backgrounds, the ads, they all count as memory off of that 5GB.
If you have the card for one specific purpose (ie, check my email while on a business trip) then 5G's are probably okay. But if you're just going to surf, or go to eight to ten webpages each day, that memory'll get cut down a lot faster.
Probably didn't help too much, but thought I'd take a swing at it.
Sprint has an unlimited plan for their mobile aircards. I have bougth a few for my adjusters. We pay abut 70 bucks a month for it though.
As for the 5gb a month. That can be quickly consumed I would think. Especially since most websites are pretty intensive. I think you could cut it down if you kept a larger internet cache though so your browser didn't download everything on a page every time you visit.
One way of determining what you have is to go to a website and download the content offline and see what size it is. It will give you a good estimate of how much you will be using based off the websites you visit.
