Save the Boobies!!

Today is October 1st, which means the beginning of breast cancer awareness month. Every month around the 15th, I try to post instructions on how to conduct a self-exam of your breasts. Right now I'm reaffirming my commitment to do that every month, because you all are important to me. I don't know how many of you all read my posts. I have no idea ( Read more... )

I'm so glad that your aunt is healthy and doing so well today.

Good luck for Nano! I'm trying it this year. I hope to keep my sanity.

Thank you. It's such a relief that she's well.

I'm trying not to think about how crazy my November is going to be. And I'm thrilled you're going to give it a go! :D

I love the helpful cards they have for you to print out. I usually foget to check or how to check.. these should help. :)
And I had no idea you were suppose to start getting checked at age 20! I should check into this.. there's cancer in my family but not the immediate family.

Thanks for caring so much! And I always read. I actually look forward to you posts! :)

And I'm going to try and participate in NaNoWriMo this year.. I just have to start working on the details now. We shall see.

It's probably a good idea to start checking yourself around the time you have your first gyno exam, around 18 (though I didn't have my first exam until I was 27 :/). And if you have cancer in your family, it's definitely a good idea.

You're sweet. Spreading the word makes me feel better. There have been so many times where I've sat in front of the computer screen bawling because one of my friends is going through a hard time. So it's important to me that everyone stay healthy.

Good luck with NaNo! I've been waiting for them to update the site all day long. It looks like it should be up within the hour!

I hope your class isn't too bad today! I'd love to give Nanowrimo a shot, but I don't think my schedule is going to permit it. Maybe I'll plan ahead for next year. Good luck. :)

I remember you had mentioned earlier that you wanted to do something to raise money for breast cancer research, and I had an idea. Maybe it sucks, I don't know.

I was thinking that you could setup a month-long "Donations for Drabbles" pledge drive. The idea would be that someone could donate a sum ($5 and up) and request a drabble on a genre/pairing (or gen)/prompt of their choosing. For example:

"I'll donate $20 for this drabble:

Genre: Romance
Pairing/Characters: R/Hr
Prompt: Broomstick"

Then, the first person interested in writing the drabble could volunteer to do so.

I think all you'd really need is an LJ comm and a PayPal account, and then have as many people as you can pimp it to get the word out. I'm probably simplifying things a bit and haven't thought this through enough, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

Thanks for the good wishes. Unfortunately the class was pretty bad. I got really angry and wanted to cry. *sigh*

That's a good idea and along the same lines I was thinking of. TQP actually had a nice setup for their Demelza House benefit in which authors signed up to do x amount of stories. People then commissioned authors and based on the length of the stories, they would pay a certain amount. I'm thinking of maybe doing something in the new year, because I should have started planning long ago and everything is sort of busy right now with fests. I like the pairing/prompt/genre thing, though. Maybe expand it to include other fandoms? I dunno... Still thinking. ;)

That's true, everyone seems to be fairly busy right now. I think something like this could work in the future, given the right amount of planning and promotion...

I totally agree. The people in this fandom are wonderful, giving, loving people.

I'm so glad you're going to do NaNo! We can cheer each other on! :D

I think I'm crazy to do it again. LOL! Especially this semester. But I need something happy to do, to keep my mind off stressful things. Plus, I have an entire week off in November in case I need to play catch up. :)

It didn't suck as much as other classes, but I was still angry. *sigh* It just makes me so angry how people think it's okay to judge other people. The self-righteousness of the people in this class drives me mad.

*loves you back* ♥
