Cabin-in-The-Woods II

So this past weekend was 'Cabin-in-The-Woods-Con' going with teh joke that any gathering of our freinds is a minicon.

This year, we had Joanie, and Raye! So that was four with me and Kat. Which is good, because that fits in my car!

Joanie was watching her parents house, so we went and picked them up there, in Athol, Friday morning- well, noon. ^__^ They have a nice house.
We had a lovely drive up, stoping for a milkshake on the maine turnpike, and in Auburn to raid Jo-Anne's Fabrics. They didn't have any reminants I liked, but they had reanimator green lace and these adorable scissors. Also 3 Musketeers trufflecrisp bars, which I am totaly addicted to.

A bit further up we stopped at Walmart for groceries and bought way too much prepared food/junkfood. Since they were $5 we picked up a dozen discount roses, (yellow) because yellow roses are for freindship.

When we got to the lake, Someone at Charlie and Amanda's was parked in the middle of the road, so we had to wait for them to move- and it seems that no one knew I was coming! The fridge was turned off. But Aunt Liz called and told me to turn it on at the breaker, and everything else was fine. We got settled in, had raviolli for dinner, lit a fire for comfort and fun (got it right on the first try!) played a few games and went to bed. Because sleeping was good!

The next morning, I turned on the bilge pump in the boat like Aunt Liz had asked, and we went down and Kat went wading while the rest of us stayed on the dock. (I'd waded in the morning when everyone else was asleep to check the temperature. ... That is, pretty cold) Aunt Liz came by, and hung out while we arted, then we were silly with tarot cards for a bit. She gave us directions to the fair, though, and we had a lunch so we wouldn't be starving and went into town, where we poked about the vintage costume store, and once again, were struck with the difference between vintage and thrift. Also, pushy sales people were pushy. Except they ignored Raye! (DB Totaly unacceptable) We went to the fair, and wandered around. There was a magnificent sunset, and we saw some exhibits, and rode on two rides, a 'lightening bolt' and a 'twister' for the four of us, this was nearly $30 so next we got some fried dough, looked at a farm museum exibit, bought some honey for mother, and wandered through the midway, where I tried (and failed SPECTACULARLY) at the ring toss game. I paid my $3 for fourteen throws and missed EVERY TIME. The man was boggled. He was all 'This little girl won $5! just now! on one ring!' and I was all 'good for her.' >////< (too embarrassed for words, but not about to pay more for more chances to fail!) Kat got some soft serve vanilla/blackrazzberry swirl, which she shared with me, and then we all split a blooming onion. The sunset was fading and with one more loop through the exhibit hall, we left, going home to roast marshmellows and hot dogs, and play games in front of the fire.

Break in the narrative here. Back when I got my first car, I was working with the Maine Renn Faire. to clear my campsite in the woods, I bought a small hand-axe, which then took up residence beside the passenger seat. Three cars later, the same axe was still living there.
Upon arriving at the cabin, I discovered there was no hatchet to make better kindling with. So I got to use my emergency hatchet, which made me kind of gleefull. In fact, I think I left it there, in the kindling bucket. Whoops.

Sunday was not as nice as friday and saturday, so we never went swimming or kyaking. Instead, we stayed in all day, played musical art, drew, chatted, and played games in front of the fire. We had alot of fun. Kat made pancakes, and we all took turns doing dishes over the course of the weekend. I learned you do not wake someone up by sliding your hand under their covers and tickling their knee- and Jiffy pop really is as much fun to make as it is to eat!
More, if you scorch your thumb on the steam.

Monday morning I woke up early, read a few ghost stories from a book sitting around, then made sausages to calm my nerves. people trickled awake, we stripped the beds, and started the wash. (I swept out the ashes from the fireplace) Much of the morning was sitting around, playing games and waiting for that to finish, doing little clean up jobs. We made the beds, reprepped them with mouse poison, swept, wiped, washed, stacked and made sure we took all of our stuff. I turned off the fridge at the breaker again, and the propane at the can, and tossed the roses that wouldn't survive the trip home into the lake. Raye (who has rheumatoid arthritis) had trouble getting into the loft to sign but did it!

We were all kind of sad about leaving, but I pointed out we still had a 5 hour road trip back home to hang out. We didn't manage to get out until 3. Or at least it was 3 when we stopped for gas in Farmington.

In New Hampshire, on 93, we pulled breifly into a rest area (with a liqour store) so I could program their adress into the phone and search for a Dennys to get something to eat, since we didn't have lunch at the cabin. Apparently there wasn't one, and we pulled back out- directly into the traffic caused by a traffic accident! We stayed within sight of the rest area for an hour. After a while, we pulled out Apples to Apples and the last of the sodas (still cold, having been packed in a paper bag) and shared them around, along with oreos and doritos.

Then we played the 'pants' game with teh word 'derp' (which means kind of 'brain fart' or 'sudden stupidity' I think) and we played it for like an hour, laughing so hard that my face started hurting.
It was getting late and so we stopped at a Freindlys. We kept 'derp'ing until we were afraid the other people would get offended, but we couldn't stop laughing.
Finaly we dropped Raye and Joanie off at home and headed home ourselves.

It was a fun trip.
