I've been in a twist lately. It goes much deeper than I could really get into in a quick journal post, but...I'm really longing for a place to consider "my own". I've no idea where...I've no idea how, but I so deeply want a house...with room for a dog...and mayhaps room enough for a horse one day not too far in the future ( Read more... )

I can understand. One the one hand. Part of me wants to buy house for various reasons, preferably in the country.

On the other hand, my career (and dating life), doesn't lend it self to country living. And I don't like the idea of being anchored down.

I have a somewhat similar dillemma. I want a house that I can afford, one with enough room between me and the neighbors that I can't hear them. Even better if I can't see them. But I also do not want to live in the middle of nowhere (having already been there, done that). I like civilization, being near the grocery store and a movie theater and a good bookstore. It would be nice to be able to walk in the woods out my back door, but also be close enough to the grocery store to ride my bike there. But I suspect that is an impossible combination of wishes.

A college town would be good. They can be remote and green and pretty, but you still have the culture, energetic population, and links to the rest of the world. Your crafts would be welcome in a place like that as well, since they are often more creative and liberal-minded than other small towns. Western MA is actually a perfect example!
