I've added you back b/c you seem cool and don't look to me like a serial adder. Which community did you find me in (seems we have a couple of communities in common)? :-)
Hi! I just found you when belladonnalin mentioned you in vegancooking. You both seem cool, so I added you. No need to add me back, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up. :)
Hello. I was randomly looking up people who had Andrea Dworkin listed as an interest and I liked the name listed for your journal, and I noticed we have a bunch of important interests in common. Then I noticed you're in Spokane, which I practically lived in for years and years! (I was in Coeur d'Alene, unfortunately.) Anyway, you seem cool.
the name is a line from one of my favorite Dar Williams songs, as are most of the titles and such through-out my journal.
whooo for other Dworkin fans. belladonnalin and I were just talking about her books the other night and it took me a minute to catch why saying "her most recent book" was no longer really an accurate statement, since Heartbreak was and will remain her last.
I've only read Intercourse, which I finished a few days ago. The book is underlined like crazy with notes and commentary all in the margins. I don't usually do that to books, but this was very important.
I'm kind of torn in that a.) she didn't really give a conclusion as to what to do about everything, or whether there can be some sort of alternative (I mean, she dismissed alternatives that said heterosexual sex can be remade, but is it too idealistic to think we can remake society enough to redefine sex?) and b.) the fact that Ariel Levy quoted her in Levy's introduction as having told a teacher to "Eat shit, bitch" really disturbs me in its hypocrisy. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that. But besides that, the book is very coherent and immediate.
I loved Heartbreak. It really helps to see the inner parts of her life to understand how she got to the political places she did with her writing
