Point has been made that we have been trans-human ever since we started using tools. Sounds pretty solid to me. The pace has been accelerating, to be sure (ala the singularity) The point has also been made that we are now able to enhance the human functionality. But this is currently mostly done to fix the human from some physical deficiency or accident. - heart transplant, prosthetic limb, whatever

I'm of the opinion that humanity died out millennia ago. We started making things within our own natural packaging, and suddenly we stopped being what we were. Transhumanism to me is the exploration of how the new constructs are effecting what we call humanity, and our prior constructions.
To me, a Transhumanist is an evolutionist that observes their sociotechnological surroundings. Then they put two and two together to make imaginary numbers.
