Today, January 19, we celebrate the 30th birthday of Buffy Anne Summers! As a tribute, I've created an alternate "Older and Far Away" tableau. Here's the premise: What if, instead of saying to Halfrek, "I wish I could make people stop going away," Dawn had made a different wish?
Behind the cut: What might have happened.
It's Buffy's birthday, and everyone's come to Revello Drive for the party!
The Angel Investigations gang showed up. Willow and Tara brought Miss Kitty Fantastico.
Even Darla is about to knock on the door. (Fortunately Faith is right behind her.)
Despite Buffy's disapproval, Spike is moving in on the beer and cake.
But wait. Something strange is happening. Everyone's pairing up...
.... sometimes in unexpected combinations.
"Dawnie," Joyce asks, "what mischief have you been up to now?"
A repentant Dawn sobs, "I just told my counselor that I wish the people in my life could show each other how much they really love each other!"
Generously, Xander and Anya show how much they really love Dawn by teaching her a valuable lesson about making wishes.
Meanwhile, everyone else does what comes naturally.
In the end, even Dawn has fun at Buffy's party.
Happy birthday, Buffy.... and thanks for the memories!
