Local elections: Argh

The bad thing about getting yourself informed about local politics is that when a really bad candidate wins, you know about it right away. Unfortunately that happened in my city yesterday, when the single most potentially destructive candidate for our city council beat his well-qualified opponent. The last city commission that Mean Guy served on actually disbanded because the other members couldn't stand to be in the same room with him

Wow: that's some kind of record, that is. I follow other people's local politics as a side project to following my own: that's as bad as I've heard, usually what happens is that the rest of the commission ends up forming a committee that the bozo deluxe isn't part of and only voting on final measures when he's present.

I don't think they officially disbanded -- they just stopped meeting for, like, two years. Maybe they hadn't heard of the committee-of-all-but-one technique. An investigation by city staff concluded that, yes, it was all Mean Guy's fault.

I tremble for the future.
