The face of the anxious kitten in my icon pretty well expresses how I feel right now. Next weekend we're driving up to the breeder's house to pick out our new GOLDEN RETRIEVER PUPPY, and two weeks after that we'll bring him home

And you need a crate, to put the puppy in when you're not there.

Yes, a crate is number 1 on our list of things to acquire. The book I'm reading right now says to set up a puppy playpen with the crate inside it, as well as an appropriate toilet area in the opposite corner from the crate. I'm off to the neighborhood pet store this afternoon to get advice on which crate and find out what I need to do to sign up for puppy training!

Congratulations!! You will have so much fun!! Easiest thing for puppy control is just to buy a proper-height puppy play pen, and get a tarp for underneath. The one I bought came with a matching tarp, but if yours doesn't come with one, just buy one at the hardware store and cut it to size. This is a great way for the puppy to still be near you and have freedom when you can't be focusing on it 100% of the time.
