New Book Challenge 2008 - 2/52 - Review - Jean of Storms
Has been quiet at work and so have been able to finish book 2 of my New Book Challenge. The list is here.
EBD's only Adult Novel, Jean of Storms, is a tale of the life & loves of one Miss Jean McCleod. There is a loose plot of the courting (and 1 marriage) of Jean, and her friend Mollie throughout the book. But most chapters contain isolated incidents. Such as Jean's encounter with the Rector's wife, Mrs Semple, or Kirsty & Allison's running away into the Smuggler's Cave, an adventure which finally brings Jean and the Doctor together after months of being icily polite to one another, due to the slanderous gossip of Mollie's old housekeeper.
An interesting book to read, but one can't help but feel that EBD wrote deeper characters in some of her juvenile fiction...
