"Deny It All"-The Dear Hunter
*~*
Hermione opened the door to the dormitory she shared with the other sixth year girls. She waved her wand vaguely in the direction of the gas lamps on the wall, which faltered a bit before bathing the room with bright light.
The party downstairs was still raging, though she wasn't sure for how much longer. She was sure that at some point Professor McGonagall would decide the festivities had gone on long enough and would come in to break up the party. That meant Hermione might not be alone for long. She wrapped her arms around herself. For the first time in six years wished for her bedroom back home and the privacy it afforded.
She closed her eyes tightly, feeling hot tears slide down her cheeks. She had been taken completely by surprise. Whatever ideas she'd had over the past few weeks-fantasies of the two of them attending Slughorn's party together, his jealousy of McLaggen, all the times she'd thought she'd caught him looking at her-had been delusions. The reality was what she saw tonight, his lips fused with Lavender's, his hands running up Lavender's back, his laughter as he pulled Lavender by the hand into the classroom.
Hermione took a steadying breath, and wiped furiously at her wet cheeks. She had been foolish tonight, but that would end right now. She would not give him or anyone else the satisfaction of knowing that he had hurt her. She would push it all down. She would deny it all until eventually she forgot those feelings ever existed. She would deny he ever meant anything to her at all.
