Title: Sans Writer's Strike
Author: willows_whiten
Claim: Kevin/Scotty from Brothers & Sisters
Table: Wedding Vows
Prompt: To love and to cherish
Rating: G
Summary: The Wandells meet the Walkers. Takes place during Kevin and Scotty's engagement (written sans writer's strike so the engagement is longer).
Warnings: Canonical slash
Notes: I own nothing. I didn't know if I dare take on the challenge of writing a Walker dinner scene. However if you have suggestions of what would have gone down during it, I would consider giving it a chance.

Scotty was seated rigidly on the couch of his childhood house. Well, not his childhood house per se, because he was born and raised in Oxford, Mississippi and this house was in Peoria, Arizona. But it was his parents house, and a place he never felt especially welcomed.
"Okay, so you really do love him?" Bertha asked, trying not to come across as disapproving or disgusted although she felt both.
"Yes."
"And you're sure you just don't think you do?"
"I really do love him Mom. If he was a girl and you knew how I felt about him and the way he makes me feel, you would be rushing around trying to set up the wedding on your own."
"And his parents are okay with this?"
"His dad's dead. But his mom just wants him to be happy, and she doesn't care if he's married to a man, woman, or alien."
"So she thinks you two are a good match?"
"She loves me."
"I wish you could understand why this is so foreign for us Scott."
"I kind of do. But Mom, I was so gay so fast, there was no questioning my sexuality. So how didn't that make it easier?"
"I pretended like I didn't see what I saw. And I was convinced you'd out grow it."
"I'm sorry to disappoint you."
"Honey, we're not disappointed. We really do love you. It's just. . .weird. . .and. . ."
"Unnatural?"
"I'm sorry son."
"Maybe some day the church won't see it as weird and then you can really accept me."
"I'm so sorry Scott."
"Maybe you could meet Nora. Meet the whole Walker clan."
"Okay. I suppose if they are to be your in-laws, we should make an effort to be civil."
"If it makes you feel any better, Kitty's a Republican. Actually she's married to Senator McCallister."

Scotty was nervous as he sat in the backseat of his parents' car. They were on the way to be the Walkers.
Scotty shifted from foot to foot as he rang the doorbell.
"Hi Scotty!" Nora said, gathering him into a hug.
"Nora, these are my parents, Wally and Bertha. And this is Nora, Kevin's mother."
Nora hugged both. "I'm so excited to finally meet you both. Come in, come in. Everyone's in the kitchen."
"This is Sarah, her two kids Paige and Cooper. This is Tommy, his wife Julia and their daughter Elizabeth. This is Kitty and her husband Robert and their son Evan. And this is Justin."
Just then, Kevin walked in.
"Sorry I'm late I was caught up--" Kevin interrupted himself when he saw Wally and Bertha standing in the kitchen.
"And this is Kevin. My fiance."
"You must be Mr. and Mrs. Wandell," Kevin said, shaking their hands.
"Nice to meet you," Bertha said.
Kevin couldn't help but feel like their was a sudden chill in the room.
"Let's go eat," Nora suggested.
