Name
Willow Tenbrook
Birthdate
August 28th, 1991 (18) Virgo
Height & Weight
5'6", 129 lbs.
Appearance
Blind in her right eye, the blue of the iris has become somewhat milky from this inability to function. Though her pupil responds to light, the eye has a tendency to have a 'lazy' effect. Because of this, Willow keeps her hair long and before her ears, often obscuring her eyes. Also due to the blindness, Willow tends to look at people crookedly, so as to get a better look with the left eye. Because of a somewhat late-blooming rebellious streak, Willow has several ear piercings (though all are largely conventional and limited to the lobe and outer rim), a simple stud in her nose, and a somewhat girlish blue and purple butterfly on the back of her left hip. Beyond these, however, the girl is nothing particularly special in terms of appearance. More thin than fit, her clothes are most of what sets her apart from other girls her age. Favoring dark jeans and amusing shirts, Willow doesn't dress up much. She's more inclined to hooded sweatshirts than dresses. When she does pull her hair up, it's simply to get it off her neck, and nothing more elaborate than that.
Personality
Though she's 17, and overachieving in her last years of high school, Willow is still a kid at heart. She may reason like an adult. Though she favors her intelligence and her immediate reaction is to rely on cunning above all else, there's a youthful energy to her that can be either annoying or endearing. She thinks fast, but there seems to be no filter between what she thinks and what she says. All of it sort of comes out of her mouth at once and she's prone to rambling on when she's nervous, bored, excited or simply inclined to talk. The only things she will not speak of tend to be whatever really bothers her or the aspects of her past or of herself that she would rather deny than admit to. On the surface, Willow is very open with a great number of things, but there are subjects she will only skirt around or avoid. Those subjects are primarily her mother or the consequences of her actions. Willow is not exactly bad at lying, but the longer she dwells on a lie the more difficult it is for her to maintain. Little white lies, once and done, are easy for her, but persistence or worry can drive her to the truth. Something of an optimist, she tends to try to find the bright side of things and ignores the darker aspects as best she can. Not only that, she endeavors to cheer people up who are feeling low. This doesn't just apply to people she knows well.
She likes books, learning, comfortable clothes, punk music, the occasional chick flick, her beat up old mustang, action movies, Bruce Willis, and prime time TV. She dislikes autocratic adults, being treated as if her age defines her, country music, science, relying too heavily on others, verbal and physical fights, and Quentin Tarantino movies. Willow also has some lingering aversion to fire, and she prefers to keep a reasonable distance from it.
History
Willow grew up primarily in the suburbs. Her childhood was largely positive save for overheard arguments between her parents and a strain between her and her mother than only ever seemed to increase. Her parents’ mounting marital problems contributed to a streak of acting out that culminated in accidental arson on Willow’s part. The incident burned down their house and resulted in injuries to Willow’s occipital lobe (due to falling boards) that caused permanent blindness in her right eye. The injury, coupled with the stress of moving, only exacerbated Willow's problems and made the rebellious streak more pronounced. Her mother's response was to force her into counseling. Soon after, her father and mother went through a messy divorce. After the divorce was finalized, she barely ever saw her mother again. Since the age of 14, Willow lived with her dad. Her mother, Moira, was much more concerned with her medical practice. A street cop with high blood pressure and some anger management issues, Stan nevertheless did his best to provide for his little girl. He gave her the fire and determination to rise above his stretched income, and tried to shield her from the uglier aspects of the world--like her boyfriend at the time. Willow wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and make the world she lived in safer, so when it came time to start making plans for college, Willow has already decided on double majoring in both Criminology and Psychology at Cambridge, and is now in the midst of trying to make her plans a reality.
Lately Willow's life has been simple, if busy. Though tensions with her mother ran high, and the woman finally disappeared entirely a few months ago, her home life has quieted down. She and Stan get along well enough, though there is some friction over Willow's boyfriend, who was incarcerated recently on a five year sentence. Aside from this, Willow juggles a part time job at a music store, school, cooking (more often than not) for her father, and visiting Naoise in prison, all while paying meager respects to a particularly ailing social life.
