Oh my god I just decided I want a fiddle! grammy and I were talking about the girl who plays fiddle in Celtic Women and I decided it would be SO cool to play!
Just popped my head in. Surprising you mention this since I'm currently learning the violin for class.
A word of warning about the viola: 1) It is the only instrument that still uses alto (C) clef. So if you want to learn how to read music on the C clef it will confuse the hell out of you if you already are familiar with/intend to learn treble (G) clef, which is far more common.
2) It is not made to be a solo instrument, but intended for performance in string ensembles. This will probably affect trying to find solo music.
3) The larger body makes it more physically demanding to play than the violin.
If you still want to try the viola, my advice is to rent it from a music store first. It's a lot cheaper and easier than purchasing one and there are a lot of 'rent to own' options. Good luck!

there's pretty much nothing. lol....
and I always found the violin to be too small for me. It could be the fact that I my arms and hands are fairly long.
Thank you, though.... I'll look into some places around here(if I find any...) :(
