I won Best Painted army!

I mean, there were only a few fully painted forces on the tables, but a couple of 'em were really nice, especially the Death Guard and Lost N' Damned, both of which featured incredible conversions and tons of gross detail. My favorites were a Warhammer giant with a lascannon arm, counting as a Sentinel; a Predator tank covered with eyeballs; and a series of beautifully converted Chaos Spawn made to resemble a Tyranid, Ork, and Human respectively. Considering I was still painting Avengers thirty minutes before the tournament, and only two of my squads were completed fully, I'm very happy with the result.

Play-wise, I did... not bad. Two wins, two losses, one draw. Everyone noted that the units I chose to field were unusual choices for an Eldar force, being absent of any Wraithguard, Wraithlords, Avatars, or psykers. My list was as follows (adhering to tournament rules):

10 Dire Avengers w. Exarch, Extra 'Pult, Bladestorm
5 Rangers with Pathfinder upgrade
6 Warp Spiders w. Exarch, Extra 'Spinner, Powerblades
1 Fire Prism

Tons of shooty, frail and expensive goodness! MVP's of the match were the Warp Spiders... most of my opponents simply had no idea how to deal with them, and quickly learned to fear the fast, tricksy little web-spitters. If I had used them more effectively, I think they could have turned around a game or two for me. During game 3, in an act of desperation, the sole surviving member of the Spiders charged a group of 9 Fire Warriors, who were then helped out by their neighboring 12 Fire Warrior buddies next turn. This one lonely Spider won the assault (against 21 Tau!), broke both squads in the same turn, and pursued and annihilated one squad as the other fled off the table edge! My Rangers also reaped a fearsome toll, pinning frequently and making a tremendous nuisance of themselves from cover. My Fire Prism... well, let's just say I need to learn to be a little more careful with it. It was such a psychologically appealing target, and didn't survive to the end of turn three in any game I played, missing with its one big shot often enough that I questioned the wisdom in fielding it at all. It did have a high point when in the first turn of my battle against the Plague Marines, I wiped out a Daemon Prince and 3 of his Chosen retinue in a single shot. Alas, I soon learned in future games to think of it as prettily painted smoking wreckage that I could hide behind.

Okay, pictures soon to follow.
