Well, heck, boys, let's just elect Jesus president in absentia and see if he won't come back and fix everything for us. And while we're at it, can we get a new Inquisition going?

hold me. I'm scared.

I can't see the video, so I can't comment. Are we sure this is really how he said it and what was the context?

I know, I can't believe I'm asking this, but is there any reasonable way that this statement can be taken if put in the full context and not just a single quote? If not ... well, yeah, scary.

and

http://belowthebeltway.com/2008/01/15/mike-huckabee-is-just-plain-scary/

for a video of Mr. Huckabee spewing this little gem. I'm still looking for a full transcript of the address, but it seems to me like it'd be hard to misinterpret his statements.

If you go to the MSNBC video, they read the transcript aloud and play the tape of Huckabee himself speaking. I believe their's plenty of context, and I find it frightening that this guy actually has a shot at becoming our president. Apparently he missed the part about "separation of church and state", or worse, just figures that parts of the constitution are optional. Freakin' wacko.

"..it was the limitted context of how we treat each other and our families.."

Actually, he was referring specifically to anti-gay-marriage and anti-abortion amendments. Which I guess kinda does fall under the aegis you describe, only with a whackjob-legislating-morality twist.

Hey, it's not as hard to change as the constitution, but they did it to the pledge of allegience. As a teacher, it hits me every single day. And don't forget money and such. Did we have separation of church and state?

How was the pledge of allegiance changed? eh?

The words "Under God" were added to the pledge in 1954, because the Knights Of Columbus thought it might help.

Huckabee probably KNOWS any "god" related change will NEVER fly through the Supreme Court so he is simply saying things to get the Christian vote.

See, that's the problem...if he were successful in changing the constitution, then a lot of his craziness would start flying through the Supreme Court. They interpret the constitution. They have no say in any proposed changes to the constitution. Granted, it's a difficult thing to do. Keep in mind that this country once went along with changing the constitution to prohibit alcoholic beverages. A good orator with a strong following can hammer alot of crap down the throats of the unsuspecting and fear ridden populace.

No but you don't have to include "god" or "God" in any amendment to define marriage as applying only to straight marriages. Even if that would be the only reason for such an amendment.
