Sandy and I have been designing a Larp recently, and we're both taking very different approaches to it. As we're working on a modern-day/near future premise, the standard boffer combat rules we know and love need a little updating... for GUNS ( Read more... )

you wouldn't happen to know if they make a version of the Stargate rifles? I think they are called P9s and I'm not sure if they are based on an actual weapon.

Edit: They are actually called p90s and are based off an actual weapon of Belgian manufacture. Silly me, I should google first.

Oh yeah, they absolutely do! I was actually just holding a P90 the other day at a store. They are sweet little numbers, aren't they?

You could find a cheap AEG (Airsoft Electric Gun) version on ebay, or hobbytron.com. Stargate has made them popular enough that there's a multitdue of relatively inexpensive P90 packages out there, most of which are probably okay in quality. If you're really looking to splurge, though, I would recommend the Tokyo Marui version. Top-of-the-line.

I still don't know where we are going to store all of these faux-guns! Wait until we get the faux EMF-Readers! Heh!

What is that? There's no link!

I just emailed my dad about the feasibility of their manufacture.

From the NEXUS larp prop department. They use them as "scanners", and they have a mechanic that I really like: there's an ability that allows you to use these to scan for specific creatures. You hold the scanner up and say "scanning for (subject)", and everyone within earshot who is applicable to the description must say "detected, detected, detected". Imagine walking along a darkened path in the woods at night in an area known to be dangerous... you pull out your trusty scanner and say "scanning for zombies", and are answered by a veritable chorus of responses scattered in the darkness around you...

But I want working ones! And besides, how are you realitically going to detect ambient-temperature bodies like zombies anyway?

Oh, NOW you want realistic, Ms. "I-wanna-do-seances-and-stuff"?

Since you asked, who says zombies are ambient-temperature? I suppose if they were merely corpses, that might be the case, but what if they're actually not dead... merely "afflicted"?

Also, it could scan specifically for zombie viruses, etc.

Whooah, hey buddy, LTNS!

We're still very much in the design phase, but a substantial amount of progress has been made with a workable combat and skill system. Next step is a couple of trial skirmishes, then beta rulebook. Perhaps you'd like to see working copies of the engine when they're drafted? Comments from those who have Actionsoft experience would be most welcome.

Yeah I'd love to see what you have. I just sold 4 Airsoft guns this past fall! Now I need to re-arm. :)
