What an incredibly cynical choice the McCain camp has made in Sarah Palin. Wasn't the central thrust of the McCain camp attacks on Obama about um, his lack of experience? Specifically, foreign policy experience? Is it possible for even the most Orwellian brain-washed proles to swallow both of these claims at the same time?

Hey, you know, the Aleutians are pretty tricky to watch. First of all, they're really far away. And a few of them were taken and held by the Japanese during WWII. Not to mention those caribou can be pretty crafty.

I mentioned this in another lj: I think McCain is correctly dumping the foreign policy angle and learning from the lessons of the past: it's the economy, stupid.

So this bolsters his maverick reputation, and I can see how this could be used as a launching point for re-invigorating that (something has to be done about the "90% votes in agreement with Bush" statement from the DNC convention). And if he confuses the Hilary PUMAs (Party Unity My A**) into not voting, that's good enough -- getting them to swap over is just icing on the cake.

Not that I have any idea if Palin has a track record of being a fiscal conservative. (Well, okay, I heard third-hand that she isn't, but I also heard third-hand that I am Elvis. Or maybe it was your brother who's Elvis. Close enough.)
