Anyway, synchronicity again! I had just been on a whinge binge last night, complaining about how the latest binge of consumer enforcement - from the end of analog TV to internet crackdowns to health insurance to the cost of hospital birth to new housing regulations - seem to be designed, in the absence of productive new marks, to attempt to make people pay for the very experience of being alive at every stage. I don't know what to do about it, but it can't last, any more than the economic booms of empire do.
