I'm confused, though, how that applies to analyzing and writing about books that were written decades or centuries ago. Same thing with writing about current events. Human motives and ideals mostly stay the same, even if the technology is different. It seems like a better way to engage students is to present something that is inherently interesting because of it's content and it's unique comment on life/values etc. Dealing with the logistics of how to connect and whatnot seems to only distract from the pure content message you are trying to communicate. Maybe students think differently, but there have always been vastly different people that can process information their own way and come to a valuable conclusion. Teaching at a highschool level should be beyond psychological tricks and all about showing how words can be an art form and allow a reader to find find a common idendity with them. The media immersion might lead to a more rapid mining and processing of information but also scattered, less organized and possibly more
