at first I thought this was an anti industrialist scene with the bottle neck being a smoke stack releasing chloro-floro-carbons into the atmosphere with the bull/unicorn being the result

I do believe that the artists at Yaffetkoto were implying that, that the booze in those bottles was indeed polluting our heroes. As for the chloro-floro-carbons point, this is just a theory, but I think that they had no idea what Cure for Cancer was, he's just something purple in a petri dish, and if the translation was off, it could have confused them. So you guess may be right on.
