1. Charles Atlas was a bodybuilder known for his "dynamic tension" method, the advertising of which was ubiquitous in twentieth century comic books. Even if you've never seen one of these ads, you're familiar with the set-up. Various ad copy specifically refers to the subject as a 97-pound weakling.


2. Sambuca is a liqueur that can be served on fire to emphasize the anise flavor.


3. Estrus is the phase of the estrous cycle when some female mammals are in heat. Humans are anestrous, meaning they don't go through the estrous cycle--instead humans have the menstrual cycle, the main difference being that, if a female doesn't get pregnant, an estrous animal reabsorbs the endometrium instead of shedding it through menstruation. So what this means is that estrous animals are only "sexually receptive" for a certain length of time (so that breeders of dogs, pandas, elephants, etc. must coordinate time for two animals to mate), whereas human females of reproductive age are sexually receptive at any time (well, biologically anyway!).
