This was my first choice for "sad song" on day 4, but looking at the other descriptions, I thought this would be better as an event. Christmas of 1976 was not very good for me. My parents' divorce was final early in December and I really don't remember a lot about the months surrounding that event. One thing stands out was that my mom took me and my sister to a "family reunion" Christmas party in the nearby town of Lamesa. We weren't very closely related to the core family for this reunion and had to go back at least 3 generations to find someone with that family name. I mostly remember these reunions being summer events at a municipal park and community center in Lamesa or Andrews and don't really remember any of the details. On the way home, I recall a nasty snow storm blowing in and this song coming on, either on the radio or one of mom's 8-tracks, and the snow storm totally reinforcing the story in the song. When we got home, the 3 of us crawled into my mom's king size bed under the electric blanket, which was a very rare treat.
