Dean watched through a sliver of glass still attached to the broken window as Sam stood beside the letterbox, holding the clean, white envelope. He could feel the tear of paper beneath his fingers, the shift as he pulled out the page.
The break when Sam smiled for the first time in weeks.
He moved to the couch and sat down, staring blankly at the screen. Some kind of lovers quarrel on yet another weepy soap. A few minutes later a weight settled beside him humming with energy and pride. And Dean waited in silence for his life to end.
