Finals already...

It's barely 1 month and a half since school started and tonight is the eve of my final. To make it even more fun I have another final two nights from now. It's pretty crazy...I'm glad I'm not playing FFXI at all; I wouldn't be able to do anything in the game because anything significant I'd want to do in the game takes at least 2 hours. ... is also the reason why vodka is the antidote for anti-freeze (ethylene glycol, EG) intoxication. EG isn't toxic, its metabolites are. Luckily, the initial metabolism of EG to glycoaldehyde by alcohol dehydrogenase is rate limiting. If the patient presents in time (ie before calcium oxalate crystal deposition in the renal tubules), you can start them on an infusion of ethanol, which is cheaply available as vodka. The ethanol outcompetes the EG for the ALDH due to its higher concentration, and the EG gets excreted. There are other ALDH inhibitors available (such as fomipazole), but they are more expensive and in some species (ie cats) ineffective unless used at extremely high doses ( ... )

:) I learned lots of neat things from your post. I wonder how Cimetidine inhibits the cytochrome P450 system. Incidentally Cimetidine was one of the drugs I had to memorize for my exam on Tuesday.
I had a demoralizing final exam today. There were a lot of questions that I wasn't sure about. I hope I passed.
