Memory, memory.

It's kind of a tricky topic, isn't it? I mean, most people here are alive and their hearts beat, and then there are the people who are dead, and they're not alive at all, but they're still here ( Read more... )

... What do you mean, that's already started? Did someone disappear?

Well, to be precise, they left.

We assume.

That's not exactly the same thing. They didn't leave because people forgot them.

And they definitely didn't disappear.

No one who remembered me when I was alive is here, and I'm still... kind of here. I guess. I don't believe that my continued existence is dependent upon the memory of someone else. If that were so, I would have already ceased to exist.

Maybe I'm wrong.

You made a journal entry, though. That's good evidence that you exist.

The wind isn't likely to forget me.

No, it's not. It won't leave, either.

No, it won't. Air is everywhere, even in water, but I'm not really a fan of the water.

But I'll leave one day. I might be part of elemental memory, but I'm not the wind in every world.

Quite the downer, aren't you?

Theoretically speaking, the dead here might just be spirits temporarily trapped between life and salvation - or damnation. Or between life and reincarnation, depending on which world and religion you look at. Considering the number of worlds here, there are endless possibilities-

So don't be a jerk and focus on the worst possible outcome, kid. Don't worry them unnecessarily when no good will come of it.

Maybe.

Some of the dead. You can't generalize, can you?

I'm just stating the possibilities.

I admit that you can't, but why bring the matter up in the first place? There's no point. If they disappear, they disappear.

People forget. Are you afraid someone will forget you?

That's a scary thought, Lan, people vanishing because they are dead and forgotten.

I guess it can happen here. I don't know if it's likely, but it's a possibility. This place doesn't really have a clear logic, laws or rules except for the administrators' amusement.

It's just meant to be a thought. You don't have to be afraid about it.

You wouldn't want to be forgotten, would you?

I...

Too late, huh? But the wrong order. Nakajima Youko vanished one day then she was forgotten by most. I guess I wasn't the most memorable person.

I--no, uh, you got me. Who wants to be forgotten?

Memories can change people a lot.

I didn't know that the wind could remember things.

The wind remembers everything. It doesn't see, you know. Seeing is the realm of the Earth. But it listens.

Things don't need to see to remember.

That's true. But the wind isn't blind.

Memories change from person to person, too.
