God knows why I still love this show, and why I feel the need to write a reaction post defending (yes, defending it) instead of writing a paper on the authentic Walt Whitman... But here goes.
So much shit went down this episode, it was like I was falling off a building into the arms of my flying brother, which is supposed to mean that it was thrilling and a little scary but mostly wonderful.
ANNOYANCES
1) Just when I get interested in Matt Parkman's storyline, he isn't here for an episode. I want to watch him follow that turtle around some more.
2) Mohinder is so fantastically stupid, I can barely function as a rational human being while watching him on screen, and not because he's pretty. I've gotten used to the fact that "Heroes" science is faker than the science on "Grey's Anatomy" (and remember how they had a person whose blood was toxic and it made everyone in the operating room faint? REMEMBER THAT? "HEROES" SCIENCE IS WORSE) but before, he wasn't killing people and putting them in ewwy cocoons. Also, why is Maya still on this show? She's related to the Mohinder plot line, yes, but I really wish she weren't. Also, no one's accent changes that quickly after being in the US after about two weeks. This is irritating to me.
3) I've determined that Hayden Panettiere can't portray conflicting emotions. That moment that should have been so fantastic, where Sylar's telling her not to let go (because she's his niece whoa they don't know that yet) and she's like, 'Why are you saving me?' her expression was more like, 'I can't act, so I'm going to sort of furrow my brow and hope that people will get it.' Also, I'm really damn tired of how she whispers in dramatic moments. Whispering does not make you a good actress, it just makes you harder to hear.
4) Nathan/Niki Tracy. It's okay, I guess, but mostly I like it when Nathan and Peter are together and touching far too much for brothers or the audience's comfort level.
WTF MOMENTS
1) That big one. You know, the bit where Hiro unflinchingly sticks a sword in Ando's chest and Ando can't be dead omg what is that blood on his shirt why is he falling to the ground OH DEAR GOD HIRO KILLED HIM. Except I don't think he's really dead. Well, that's a lie. I think he's really dead, but that Hiro can bend time and space. That's all I have to say.
2) Peter, why are you trying to kill your mother? I realize she's like, a super badass psycho bitch, but... Oh, whatever, this was basically just a plot device to give Milo Ventimiglia a week off.
3) Arthur Petrelli? Maury Parkman is Linderman? Linderman isn't real? Oh Nathan, baby, you're so screwed.
MOMENTS I LOVED
1) That moment where Sylar grabs onto Claire. Yes, I realize I just complained about it. But Zachary Quinto is walking around in a suit, trying to be better, presumably just because he found out that he still has a mommy out in the world. That's kind of sweet. Also, Sylar saving Angela. After recovering from having his neck broken. Ew.
2) The "good" villian who creates vortexes. Yes, his method of offing himself was trite, and I think I would've preferred it if HRG had killed him, because then Claire would be even more conflicted, but he was still interesting to watch.
3) Nathan telling his mother to go to hell. Nathan, you're so screwed.
4) The dream with Arthur. Can Arthur do anything? What is the deal? Heroes, why do you make me think so much?
IN CONCLUSION AND SPECULATION
I still love Nathan Petrelli with all of my heart and soul. Please, please, don't ever die. Which brings to mind the question: If Linderman isn't real, which we've suspected from the beginning, how does Nathan survive those gunshots?
So Angela's petrified? That's so creepy. Does Arthur have the ability to make things true by saying they're true? Isn't that just a little too much like the Puppetmaster dude, about whom I really have no opinion? (Not that it's not interesting, it's more that I really don't care whether Meredith, Claire or Claire's non-bio mom live or die.)
I want Peter to be my cuddly, unsure Peter with his hair in his eyes again. You remember him. Like, hopelessly attached to his older brother, explode-y, angsty Peter. He was far less scary than this Peter. But I guess he couldn't be kind of silly and directionless forever.
Sylar needs to be conflicted all the time. It makes me so happy. Also, related to last week, I still want to know who his baby-mama is.
I really liked this episode, even if it screwed with my head. Looking forward to next week, definitely.
