I guess I should make an introductory post, just in case ))

Only recently, I've discovered the wonderful world of HP fanfiction. I must confess, I'm not a big fan of HP books (though I do think JKR is a commercial genius). But fanfiction makes it so much better!

I'm not averse to any pairings, though minor characters make me lukewarm, and slash is

I do hope you don't mind, but I've friended you. I started reading The Mage today and I followed the path to your journal. I was especially intrigued when I found out English wasn't your native tongue. I'm thoroughly impressed with, not only your command of the English word, your writing abilities.

I read some of your entries and your comments about the translation of some fanfics to Russian have me a tad worried. Darned Child and I are writing a fic together and were recently approached by a very nice young lady, Olga, to translate it into Russian. Believe it or not, one of my major concerns was if it would be "the same" and how the words we have blended together would translate.

We were both flattered and pleased by the offer, and we accepted. Now - all the doubts are back.

I had to grin at the "OMG" because finding out that you like our story is flattering as well, because I wasn't lying. Your style and use of words is outstanding. I often think that fanfic is the perfect outlet for those that can and do write well, but haven't taken the plunge to try it commercially.

As far as I know there aren't any of my stories translated at this time. Olga wanted to translate Beyond, and I have sent her Part One either last week or the week before, but I haven't heard anything back yet.

If you see it, please take a look and tell me honestly if it's being butchered? That was the major concern expressed by both of us when we discussed it.

As far as reviewing, *twirls toe in dust and tries to look repentant*, I'm not real good about it myself, so don't feel bad. ;)

I agree about fanfic being the good way to channel your skills. I also think it takes a nice commercial streak and a certain ability to be able to 'stick a finger in the sky' as we say here, to hit right at the audience.

If you'd like, I can check and see if there are any of your stories translated. Quite many translate fanfics without asking.

Fanfic is a great way to practice English! BTW, have you visited GrangerEnchanted.com? There are some really good authors. It's a Hermione-centered archive.

I've been more of a Dramione person, so I haven't read much SS/HG. But GrangerEnchanted has plenty of SS/HG fics.

English HP fanfiction is a marvelous world. You'll find both gems and garbage there. :-)

And I agree about HP fanfics. One thing I certainly admire is their variety. Oh, and the quality is exceedingly high. I can't compare with many other fandoms, but I've read some fanfics for Lost and most are mediocre at best.

we share a love of ss/hg as a pairing. though i've since branched out to lm/hg, dm/hg.
Pretty much Hermione-centric as long as it's not Ron! Rarely Harry.
