Hi!

For your icon question. Use your icon, and mention in the description that you don't know who made it. I usually put something like "If this is yours, please let me know so I can give appropriate credit!"

When I know the provenance of an icon, I credit the username (if applicable) or name of the icon maker in the description.

For examples, you can look here: http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=ratherastory

Thanks that's pretty much what I thought, just wanted to be sure. Don't wanna step on any toes already but I'd like to find a few new icons and want to go about it the right way.

Thanks for taking the time to read new friend -]

ratherastory is totally right in my opinion, I do the same thing with regards to using icons - since I have no artistic ability whatsoever and can't make my own...or when I do make my own I'm too embarrassed by their generally crap-ness to use them. :)

I really do love this Fandom, I've been around awhile I guess but I eased myself in gently by posting my dodgy fanfic over at FFNet and since I found my way here to LJ I've become much more active.

I guess posting on your journal is something like opening a door, it opens your world up to others and lets them inside.

It really does. I'm glad I'm finally becoming a part of it.

Thanks!

That's how I've found most of mine. Usually on a random PhotoBucket or google or just a weird place and never needed to figure out who made it I just saved it to my computer and when I slithered here for the first time I realized it was a serious subject. I've seen fights over stuff like that. I guess I just never thought of it until I came 'round here. But you're not lazy, what your saying isn't much different from them, as long as you credit them when they speak up.

That's the idea of it! I guess what scares most people is kinda the idea of having people lurk around their journals you know? Like you post private stuff there and you don't just want to be friends with someone cause of their art or stories or anything really. You want to be their friend. But like she said, start joining communities, commenting on fics and such and in no times you'll be in the swing of things ( ... )

I really do get it now! lol. I'm not new to the fandom, I've literally watchedf and read SPN fics since day one. When the first ep. of Supernatural came on 6 yeats ago, I saw a commercial for it like 20 min prior and watched it, fell in love, and wound up here.

I'm just new to actually posting and friending, and using LJ for myself and not just reading others. But yeah, it was good advice. Hopefully some people will start to recognize my name at some point and will know I'm not a weirdo stranger just randomly popping in.

Thanks for the advice on the icons and thanks for reading =]

After I read your nice comment, I got curious and I had to check you out! ;) You know, when I first started posting on LJ (a little about two years ago I guess) I had no clue why people would add me as their friend and then never talk to me at all. Took me some time to realize that it's a way of keeping an eye on journals (seriously, I didn't know about that before). Till this day, whenever I read that someone has added me as a friend, someone I have never heard of before, I am torn, I never really know what to do about that. Usually I just feel very flattered and then... just go on. I think, if someone wants me to friend them back and, you know, become 'real' friends then they'd drop me a line. I'd love to meet new people and to make new friends, but, even though I post on my journal, I tend to be incredibly shy when talking to other people. And even with the few mutal friends I have here, I am still very reluctant to comment on their private entries. I don't know if I can ever get over that, it's just... weird, you know ( ... )

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. It really means a lot to me when someone is willing to friend me and on top of that, actually take the time to read a little about me ( ... )
