Hmmm... what kind of computer is it? I have an HP and I'm pretty much in the same situation. Even though my computer is still under warranty, HP said that the part could only be exchanged in the US; same process as you. Between customs tax and shipping, it turned out to be cheaper to just buy a new battery myself. And you will probably have to pay customs taxes too, because earlier I had to have my (used) laptop sent to me from the US and I was charged around $50 on delivery. What a pain in the ass.
Anyway, I hope the new school year is treating you well. And if not - hey, only two weeks til Golden Week. :]
Yeah, I've got an HP too. If it's a battery, yeah I'd say just pick up a new one.
I think between shipping it back and forth and a couple of international telephone calls it's probably going to be coming to like $300-$400, but it's either that or buy a brand new one. I'm already pissed about it and my computer isn't even in America yet. It's going to be a long while.
The only reason I'm chapped about the battery is that HP is the reason it's toast. First, my motherboard fried back in November (when it was only 5 months old) and when I got my "fixed" computer back from them, the battery was useless. Basically the whole situation makes me want to punch somebody in the face.
