A lot of sleeping. He is on a goodly amount of drugs, the real kind, and has been aware but only just. I've been reading to him while he's mostly out of it, and he seems to respond well. Although I do think I have a better voice for it than the vast majority.

You should relieve me eventually and try it, Promise. Pore over a chapter, linger lovingly, roll a perfectly chosen word around on your tongue for him.
