Another Short Saiyuki Fanfic - Cigarettes

I almost named this little fic "Addiction" but there seem to be a lot of fanfics with that title, especially about Saiyuki (and I think I may have even written a few...), so I called it "Cigarettes" instead.  Which may or may not be used even more.  Either way, I lack any talent for coming up with titles, haha.

I love this line: He partook in every glorious trip imaginable that could distract him as it slowly blackened his lungs.
The sense of danger in his pleasures is very appropriate, I think, to Gojyo's character and to the tone of Saiyuki in general ^____~ Self-destructive personalities left and right, isn't it!
The tired feeling of your prose, describing an addict who tries so hard not to notice how pathetic his vices make him, fits so very well with the canon scene when he stumbles across that dying man in the middle of the road. "Life is so easy it makes me wanna puke."

And... the broader Minekura fangirl in me wants to see tones of Wild Adapter here too, especially in your excellent closing line. "This time I'm thinking I'll be the first to die." Maybe that's just me... I really wanna get my hands on WA 5 ..... (:

It does seem like Saiyuki and Wild Adapter share a lot of the same themes, although maybe that's just the fangirl in me looking for something. XD (Hopefully WA 5 has come to your possession by now, or is close to it!)

Dunno. I've always pictured Hakkai as being slightly less prone to addiction, at least after the whole Kanan incident, heheh.

He needed that smile for whatever reason. So he took it with him. Scooped up the man who had withdrawal symptoms that might’ve been even worse than his own, and carried him back home.

From that day onward, that man became as constantly present in Gojyo’s life as his trusty box of Hi-Lites, and Gojyo wasn’t sure which need would kill him first.

I love this whole fic, but this...just so much YES.
