I've been here for over two years now... I can't believe this will be the third winter I've spent in Luceti. I've seen tons of people come and go from this place, and even I went home once. It was only for a few days in Luceti's time though, so I'm not sure if that counts for me actually leaving ( Read more... )

...Which one was the worst?

That's a tough one. I think one of the worst ones was when the hunter was loose in the village and nobody knew what was going on.

A lot of people were hurt or killed.

You have? What sort of experiments have you seen? Have any repeated themselves? Did they change in general from what you first arrived?

...I hope you don't mind the questions.

The first one I ever experienced was a huge flood. It rained for days, and most of the houses were filled with water.

There's been some harmless experiments, like when the village was covered in flowers or everybody turned into animals or kids. There's also been really horrible ones, like when a virus spread through the village or the time we thought the word was ending.

From what I've seen, the experiments used to be really random, mostly designed to see how we reacted. These days, there's more information, and outside forced other than the Malnosso are interfering with the village.

Nah, I don't mind. I offered, didn't I?

I suppose they would get tired of using the same tactics. If that means the flood and virus won't be repeated, I'm glad...but they don't seem to run out of ideas.

Have they always lasted for about a week, and taken place at the end of the month? Or did that change, too?

The virus has already come around twice, so it probably won't happen again. Some of the others, I couldn't tell you.

They used to be at more random times, sometimes in the middle of the months, sometimes the end. Most of the time they lasted a week though, I've seen some last shorter.

I'm definitely curious. I haven't really seen any of these experiments yet, but I've heard of a couple.

They've varied a lot. Any type you want to know about in particular?

The dangerous ones. And how people coped with them.

Sure, I'll try to remember as many as I can. The first really dangerous one was the first one I ever saw, where the village flooded. People mostly evacuated to higher areas and tried their best to figure out what was going on.

There was also the time the hunter attacked, the virus that infected almost everyone in the village, and the personality switch where people's normal personality did a complete 180.

Things got a little different later, so we had a time when people were possessed by the elemental spirits that live here in Luceti. A lot of people were murdered. Then there was the giant squid monster that ran through the village.

Well, you get the point, there's been a lot of dangerous ones. In almost every situation the villagers here have banded together in some way to help each other, whether by fighting off enemies or taking care of one another.

Nobody really even knew what to do back then. It was pretty scary.

Yeah, even though they were announced in a way... they were still more random.

Now there's a pattern. Sort of.

[Ohai thar, whipping out his notebook and pencil as he lokos through the pages at the veteran eagerly]

What can you tell me about Luceti? I mean, out of the more interesting bits.

Let's see... well, did you know the houses repair themselves? When I first got here, there were only small cottages.

After more people starting arriving, those apartment places sprang up out of nowhere and the houses made themselves bigger.

I guess that makes sense, the Malnosso have to keep us alive and well cared for. But that's still pretty weird that they just... pop up. Any other things like that? Does the lake refill itself if it's drained?

Hm. I don't think the lake has ever drained on its own. But I do know the barrier itself expanded once, along with the well collapsing that led to the tunnels and desert showing up.
