DS review scores are going to be, on average, probably 10 points (out of 100) lower than PSP review scores. People who are reviewing DS/PSP games are more likely to be hardcore gamers. And for hardcore gamers, graphics are of utmost importance. They give much consideration to things like cost (a $30 game versus a $50 game) or console innovations (Pac Pix and Zookeeper could never be released for the PSP).
That said, metacritic.com, which uses a weighted average based on the range of scores each individual review site usually gives, has Mario 64 DS at 85, Band Brothers at 84, WarioWare Touched at 81, Polarium and Feel the Magic at 75, Pac Pix at 74 and Zookeeper at 73. (It's interesting that they have enough reviews to have a rating for Band Brothers, an import, but not enough for World Championship Poker or Robots.)
Oh, and did you hear that Weekly Famitsu, the biggest Japanese VG magazine, had all 4 reviewers give Nintendogs a 10/10?
i think the other problem is that people aren't as interested in arcade-style gaming anymore. it only works when you've got a bunch of people competing against each other (like a few months ago when i was battling a bomb-game addiction) or someone with an obsessive personality.
saw the nintendogs ratings - we probably follow message boards with the same content. only the fifth game to ever get a perfect score!
