I already knew I wanted to see "Spirited Away", mainly for being an anime fan and a film buff interested in the artsier side of cinema anyway, but your review now has me revved up, as does Orion Sandstorm's review of it! ^___^

Very cool that there's a white dragon in the movie, and even nicer that film has finally shed a nicer light on dragons for what they are, instead of how Hollywood schlockmeisters like "Reign of Fire" would like to perceive them to be.

then go cinema to watch it; or,
you can wait for the DVD
since you can watch it for more than once ^..^

From the old pictures I've looked at, Japanese dragons are actually covered in fur in many paintings. I think that's one of the ways they're different from Chinese dragons, aside from the number of toes.

The animators were probably glad it was just fur- it would have been difficult to draw all of a dragon's scales for each frame of animation. >.

yeah, I agree to some degree.
I've only drawn scales on dragon for once on a protrait. (you know who she is ^^)
Doing a picture is funny. But if you come to an animation,
it'll be very tough to animate and to show all the scales.

However, when Haku realized his real name, his "scales"
just fall off like pieces of snow =P
so we can't say that he has no scales.
And what the animators were doing is, IMO,
ignoring the scales for most of the time ^^
Just like what was being done in the OVA Record of Lodoss War

Btw, I got something to ask...
At the very ending, why Chihiro can identify
that all the 'pigs' are not her parents? O.o...

I'm not sure how Chihiro managed that. I think it's supposed to be that parents always recognize their children, and children always recognize their parents; even if they've been transformed into something else by magic. That's how it is in stories, at least.

But then, Yubaba didn't recognize when her baby had been changed. Maybe it was to show the kind of relationship they had, was less... less... some word or other. Do you get what I mean?
