027 [Voice]

[He's quiet for a moment, just dead air until he speaks, voice quiet and carefully neutral.]

My sister, Anna, has returned home.

[To be imprisoned, go insane, and be killed. She's one of those that, for her, being here was better than being at home ( Read more... )

... I'm sorry, Castiel.

[He, at least, is kind. And Al can understand the loss of family and the pain it brings.]

[He nods slightly even though it can't be seen, not entirely sure what he's supposed to say in this situation. He's only had to announce the departure of someone once before and hardly anyone had known that individual.

He's silent for a short time, before speaking suddenly.]

She dies, in less than a year.

[He's not sure why he's telling Al this, but Castiel doesn't handle loss well, and losing both Sam and Anna in such short succession is difficult. Sam at least would continue on and as far as Castiel knows will be fine, but Anna...]

[Al doesn't say anything immediately. It's a hard thing to turn around. Death is something final, and terribly sad. And death of family...]

... I'm glad she was here with you for the time she was. She may come back.

[The words are more comforting than expected, though he has to go silent again before he can speak without his voice giving away too much.]

She deserves the chance this place gives her.

[Lalala, just going to your room because fuck the PCD that's why. She pauses for a moment before opening the door without knocking, frowning a little.

First Sam, now Anna. This place didn't feel like leaving her friend happy this week.]

-- want to go for a walk with me?

[He doesn't know what to do now, feeling both drained and tense all at once, restless and wanting to just hide in his room.

But eventually he just nods at Rei's comment, standing up to follow her.]

[She waits, unusually patient, until he gets up to follow her. She falls into step next to him, silent until they leave the Temple. She speaks up, though, once they reach just outside the grounds.]

It's kind of a long walk.

[He drifts along with her silently until she finally speaks, and he looks over at her.]

How long?

[He's upset, but not enough so to not be suspicious when warranted.]

[Long silence. Unbearably long. And for a couple of moments, Rachel almost just hangs up again. Why did she look at the network this morning? Why did she bother?

-- Anna can't be gone. She just can't be. Anna is supposed to be here, with her, not home, doing whatever it is she's doing, this isn't fair.

When she speaks, it's very quiet.]

I don't believe you.

[It's childish, and petulant, and she's certain Castiel is hurting, but Anna just can't be gone.]

[That response is surprising enough to prompt a tilt of his head and a look other than the somberly blank one he'd been maintaining.]

I'm certain of it, Rachel.

You're wrong.

[Her voice is becoming just a little more shrill, because this is not happening. Enjolras leaving -- that hurt, and then she died, and then her voice became damaged, and she lost something, but she doesn't know what, and Anna promised her she wouldn't leave her here, and this is not happening.

Rachel can handle most things, but she cannot handle this.]

She isn't going. You're wrong. She's just missing, she's -- in the Wastelands, she's -- she wouldn't leave --

[He just watches her react, and some part of him feels badly for her, honestly, as surprising as it still is to feel empathy at times. At her words, he shakes his head somberly.]

I'm not wrong, Rachel. I know she's gone.

[Because even without his grace, he can feel it, and he just knows.]

Did she not leave a forwarding address?

[Doesn't understand this place.]

I know where she's gone.

[No more explanation than that, though he does recognize this person as new.]

Why not go after her, bring her back, then?

She's returned to our world, and I can't leave here.

[And you know. Dead.]

That sucks.

[He leaves it on video, expression blank as usual even if it's purposeful this time, and he nods slightly at the words. Sounds like the way Dean talks, so he's actually better with that wording than most of the 'good' ways.]

This dimension was a better one for her than our own.

It is for quite a few people. -=Aw man, does that mean she dies in her world?=-

Not perfect, but it's enough.

It's a chance for something more.

[She does, just like almost everyone else. His world is a terrible place in so many ways.]
