This was a "we love you and will miss you" present to Tokitoh that she told me I had to post in a public place. Uh.
I'm sorry.
Tokitoh Minoru did not want to leave camp. He had friends here, he had some kind of normalcy here, and most of all he did not like those old perverts like Akiha and Gojyo deciding things for him. But even when he managed to get them to leave him alone for a few moments so he could say proper goodbyes…things just didn't feel right.
Maybe it was Ahiru and her friends. They kept saying how if he was supposed to leave everything he had here was finished. It sounded so final, and he hated that. Like he couldn't just turn around and go back if he had the choice. But mostly it felt like he was leaving people behind, and the part of him that remembered the feeling of strays and cold alleyways, it cut him to the bone.
So, in the middle of goodbyes, when he had already said farewell (without crying damn it) to Chika and Ahiru and the like, and threatened that surly Fakir kid a few more times, he dragged Ahiru's other friend to the side. Because he had one last thing to finish here and he knew that he'd be the only one who would listen to him without protesting.
"I want you to take care of th' duck."
"Duck?" Mytho asked quietly.
"Yeah. Just! Not like a pet, just watch out for her..." Tokitoh tried to look threatening but it didn't seem to work well on Mytho, so he opted for pouting instead.
"I will."
Three nights later, when the sadness of Tokitoh's absence had tapered off into a slow ache Ahiru lay curled up in the place where he used to sleep, just for a little while, she promised herself. But Tokitoh had told Mytho to take care of the duck, and Mytho obeyed his last wish, gathering up the sleeping duck with enough grace and gentle consideration that Ahiru did not even ruffle a feather as she found herself carried off by the solemn prince.
Looking out for Tokitoh's charge seemed an easy matter at first, but once Mytho returned to the room he and Fakir shared he realized there still should be a balance made. His roommate was fast asleep, their bunny pressed against his side contentedly. While on Mytho's bed the small kitten, Alfred, lay curled up and watching.
After a moment's deliberation, Mytho placed the duck on Fakir's pillow, thinking he wouldn't mind and it may be better given the nature of cats and close quarters. Fakir seemed to relax as he did so, turning his head to the side and the small scowl softening in sleep. With that, Mytho returned to his bed and fell asleep.
In the morning Fakir often woke up before his roommate, to make sure everything was all right and he hadn't somehow fallen out of the window this time. However, he found himself turned around, and instead of the sun's dawning rays greeting him he was met by yellow of a different kind. Yellow duck feathers.
Fakir made a noise that no knight has ever made before, stumbling backward in a half-awake and half-stunned daze. Unfortunately for him, the rose vase kept between his bed and Mytho's was already precariously perched nearby, and easily swept asunder by his elbow ramming into it, spilling the vase, rose, water and all onto all the inhabitants of his bed.
The bunny twitched its ears irritably. Fakir's hair was an unkempt and dripping mess. And the worst part was right on top of him lay a dazed, wet, and certainly naked Ahiru...
"Q-QUACK!!!"
Meanwhile, worlds away, Tokitoh lay slumped in the couch of the apartment he shared with Kubo-chan. He suddenly felt that all the talk Fakir and Mytho said about completely purposes made sense now, as an epiphany that he had somehow done everything he was supposed to washed over him. It made him feel good, and like there was a clean slate waiting for him to start on…
Then Kubo-chan molested him again.
