Edinburgh

The man and I are going to Edinburgh this weekend for a mini-minibreak. We will be there for three days. We have purchased the Rough Guide publication for the city (confusingly titled 'Directions'), but we all know personal opinions are best.

What, in your opinion, should we definitely not miss in Edinburgh?

Thank you for your time.

The camera obscura (conveniently right next to the castle).
The Auld Hoose pub :)
A general wander around the place, over to the new parliament building, and up the hill next to it (Arthur's Seat). Good views from up there. Insane locals can be seen running repeatedly up and down the hill as a training exercise.
All the food I had in Edinburgh was good, and they have a surprisingly ubiquitous grasp of what a nice bit of salad is.
The castle, I suppose.
Bear in mind that the entire place is built on lots of hills, you will have plenty of gradients to walk up and down. You're not really one for silly shoes, but I suggest not acquiring a tendency for stupid girly shoes in the next 3 days.
Even when the weather is clear the wind can be quite cold; take an extra layer compared to down south.

Oh, note that the camera obscura needs a sunny day to work properly. Bright and cloudy won't really do.

I'm hoping we'll get a clear day, as this is something we really want to go see. Thanks for your other comment; I hadn't really thought about it being a bit colder but of course that makes sense.

What are you doing accross the world now? I just input my school on live journal and a few users popped up, none that were at RHS at the same time as me except you, so I thought I'd give a shout from your old stomping grounds and say hello.

"hello!" ;)
