Why oh why
Must I look like I'm five?

Today I was parallel parking, and I hit my neighbors car. Luckily, they cared less than I did. I'm scared to ever turn the keys again. Please tell me this has happened to everyone.

When you're in the car with an experienced driver, (like me for instance!) or your parents, etc.. you may not actually realize what we're doing as we're driving. Driving takes a lot of awareness that is just done automatically for us. When you first start driving, you gotta focus until it becomes just a habit. I never played music or listened to the radio for the first week when I started driving.. I just focused on what I was doing. I used to have a lot of trouble in parking lots and parallel parking - only because at first you don't really know exactly how much room you have. After a while it just becomes second nature.

Keep practicing, and it'll eventually come to you. The worst thing you can do is give up. My brother got into a bad car accident years ago, and he never drove since.. now he's always bugging me to drive him everywhere. You don't want to be that person!

I actually can't drive at all in silence -- the silence distracts me too much!! That's very true about the space thing...it definitely takes experience to learn how to judge things like that. I went for a lesson yesterday and, interestingly, my driving teacher says I'm a lot better than I've ever been. I think I was so petrified of hitting a car before that now that i HAVE and lived to tell the tale, I was a much looser driver, if that makes any sense. i can't believe your older brother has to beg you for rides! thanks for the encouragement <3

I've come to accept that I'll never be able to parallel park unless I have a very wide amount of space.. I'm always either too far from the curb or too close. And yeah, I used to hit cars a lot. I was once doing a k-turn on a skinny street in Heather's area, and I backed right into the side of a car and there was this big crashing noise. I made a little mark but it wasn't that bad so I drove away. And at night I always seem to almost back up into friends' cars. So YEAH my point is.. parking-wise, no one is worse than me. And you'll get the hang of it.

aw i love you nicole. keeping me company during the vermont reminiscing we were so not a part of...k-turns are so my enemy as well - even more so than parking. but you've always seemed like a good driver to me. driving on streets like mine + heather's is the worst :-x if you can't even get the hang out if i'm not sure i EVER will, but thanks anyway <3
