Meme

I wanted to thank you guys for all the encouragement and hugs I received from my previous post-it means the world to me.

I'm only an average writer at best but to celebrate the spirit of WriterCon, and to get my mind off my unemployed state, I decided to do the meme curiouswombat had on her LJ a couple days ago.  It was fun to revisit the stories I've ( Read more... )

Hmm, interesting meme. I noticed 6 of the 15 started with speaking.

I noticed that, too. I do tend to write a lot of dialog in my stories.

Fair warning-being unemployed now means you guys may be subjected to a whole lot more of my scribbling.

So... there's an upside to this whole unemployment thing then? :D

I like this meme. It makes me remember just how much I love your stories. I just may sit down and do some re-reading tonight!

Oh, and I notice your hysterically funny descriptions!

Only a couple are totally screwball comedies, although they all have elements in them- I've tried to write like the show for the most part with bits of humor and seriousness mixed.

LOL! Yeah I will have more time, provided I can keep the electricity on.

Ah, thank you for the compliment(you are so sweet B), but I wasn't trying to get people to tell me how great I am- I was seeking construct.

I think you are too self-deprecating.

It's a bad habit of mine-self effacement about writing. It's due to insecurity. I hadn't written anything more than a shopping list before starting these stories.

You used it edit writing-do you notice anything in particular?

I was a proofreader--never an editor, although there were a few writers who were confident enough in their abilities to ask for suggestions. (Some writers take offense at the insertion or deletion of a comma!) However, I am in no way, shape, or form qualified to make judgments on writing. To be honest, I hate much of what ends up on the New York Times bestsellers' list, so I'm hardly one to listen to, but I'll tell you what I like ( ... )

I meant to add that I enjoyed your first sentences.

Um, #15? I can't wait to read it.

Oh, and I'm no writer, just a voracious reader and part time beta, but I do not see a pattern. You do tend to grab attention with most of them, however, and that's a good thing!

I don't see patterns either.

Except for the couple of angsty stories(which were challenge fics)- they either all begin humorously or with a fight scene. But then, that's BtVS in a nutshell.

As for #15-I shouldn't have any real problem finishing it before Christmas now. :-)

Looks like you follow the first rule of writing: Opening in the middle of the action!

Yeah, I'm not much for long flowery paragraphs to set up the scene, I like action. :-)

I seem to write stories the way the show was set up- most of the time it either started with a humorous scene or Buffy kicking the crap out of some evil doer.

Well, it worked for the show, so why not?
