cancer. he had it for a long time, but he didn't make a big deal about it. I don't even know all the details. One doesn't really want to discuss someone's cancer with them.

yeah, thats him.
he was so positive, but still realised what could happen. i doubt i'd be able to react like that to something that could mean i was about to die in a few months.

I heard this from my mum this morning. I'm really sorry to hear it. It really makes you realise life isn't fair. How the hell can someone who is so young die in such a painful way? I never met Ben, but I know plenty of people who were close and I'm sure felt the pain of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in peace Ben. Everyone should go a read that link that was posted, from when he was interviewed.

He was really strong about it all... Last time I saw him was about 2 weeks before I moved, and we were joking about his operations [he was in remission then], and coming up with cool excuses for his scars. I think we decided on him fighting off giant knife-wielding ninja sharks that spat ninja stars from their mouths. He always knew there was a chance of it coming back, and the huge risk of infections.
I'm just glad he was at peace with what could happen, and I can only hope his family feels the same. Mot is going to let me know whats happening with a memorial/funeral, and I have a feeling that donations to the Cancer Council will be asked for as opposed to flowers. Jen, I'll post info for that on my lj, if you could pass it around when I find out [if you haven't already].
